United Way of Orange County’s first Day of Caring Grant Opportunity empowered four local agencies to make meaningful improvements that uplift their clients and communities. The Salvation Army refreshed the Red Shield Youth Center entrance, creating a warm, welcoming space that excited after-school youth and reminded them they are valued. Spindletop Center transformed the outdoor area at Tejas Studios by power-washing, landscaping, and adding new patio furniture—enhancements typically not covered by general funding but essential to improving residents’ well-being. At the Shorkey Center, a new playground garden now offers hands-on learning as students eagerly tend baby tomatoes, peppers, and herbs while discovering where food comes from. Stable-Spirit used the grant to purchase vital maintenance tools and staining materials, enabling volunteers to clear overgrowth, improve safety, and organize barn spaces—all contributing to a cleaner, more functional environment for clients, volunteers, and horses. Together, these projects reflect the inspiring impact made possible through UWOC’s investment in the community.
