In celebration of National Read Across America Day on March 2—the birthday of Dr. Seuss—United Way of Orange County proudly joined the nationwide Read Across America movement to inspire a love of reading in children.
From March 2–6 and March 9–12, we hosted reading sessions in partnership with the YMCA’s Y-Reads program. In honor of our 100-year anniversary, we pledged to read 100 books, reaching children across all five local independent school districts through our partner agencies.
Dedicated volunteers signed up for one-hour shifts, reading two to three short books to small groups of students. With books provided and enthusiasm shared, we helped make reading both fun and memorable for the children in our community.
