United Way of Orange County’s Day of Caring continues to make a difference beyond the day volunteers come together to serve. Through Day of Caring grants, local nonprofits received funding to complete projects that improve their facilities, create more welcoming spaces, and support the people who rely on their services.

Following Day of Caring 2026, participating organizations submitted project results demonstrating how the grant funds were used and the difference those investments made.

Creating a Welcoming Space for Counseling

Samaritan Counseling and Wellness Center received a $250 Day of Caring grant to purchase painting supplies for an office refresh. The organization spent $216.05 to revitalize an unused office space, completing a project that had been delayed because of equipment costs and limited volunteer availability.

The refreshed office provides a more inviting environment for counseling clients while allowing the center to make additional office space available for appointments. As the organization noted, the environment plays an important role in the counseling experience, making this project an investment in both its facilities and its ability to serve more clients each week.

Refreshing a Residential Community Space

Spindletop Center received a $500 grant to refresh the common area at Tejas Studios, a residential building managed by the organization. The project included repainting, furniture covers, plants, artwork, a new rug, updated light fixtures, and other improvements.

The result is a cleaner, more inviting shared space for residents. The refreshed area offers additional opportunities to welcome guests, enjoy a quiet reading area, and spend time in a comfortable common environment.

Spindletop Center shared that the project would not have been possible without the generosity of United Way of Orange County, highlighting how community support can help nonprofits complete meaningful improvements that might otherwise remain out of reach.

Supporting Safe Facilities and Equine-Assisted Services

Stable-Spirit received a $500 Day of Caring grant to purchase a pressure washer and attachments. During Day of Caring, volunteers helped pressure wash horse trailers, maintain the grounds, stain the viewing station, and clean three horse stalls in preparation for a future project.

The grant-funded equipment will continue to benefit the organization by helping maintain clean and safe facilities. In particular, properly maintained horse trailers are essential for transporting horses to veterinary appointments and community events, supporting Stable-Spirit’s ongoing equine-assisted services and community outreach.

This project demonstrates how Day of Caring grants can provide both immediate improvements and lasting resources for local nonprofits.

A Community Investment That Continues Beyond One Day

Day of Caring brings volunteers together to support local nonprofit organizations through hands-on service. Grants of up to $500 for project supplies help participating organizations address practical needs and make the most of that volunteer support.

From improving counseling offices and residential common areas to purchasing equipment that supports safe operations, this year’s projects show how relatively small investments can make a meaningful difference.

United Way of Orange County is grateful to the volunteers, participating organizations, and community supporters who make Day of Caring possible. Together, these efforts strengthen the organizations serving Orange County residents and help build a stronger community.
